I've never really thought of this journal as a digital asset. I haven't really thought of this issue at all which is why I am sharing it with you. Have you created a "digital estate plan" yet?

It's weird. I deal with people all the time in my business who just "disappear" and wonder sometimes if they've moved, fallen ill, or passed on. I've often thought about what would happen if I died suddenly--how would my online friends know of my demise?

This sounds like a great idea, although I wouldn't think my LJ would close until I didn't pay the yearly fee again, and even then, if I remember right, there's a free LJ with less stuff.

Argh, I was thinking about this a while back, and... argh. Weird, isn't it? I really need a literary executor, so I should probably get them to handle my online self too :P

A friend of mine wanted to start a company who dealt with these things, but it came to naught. Then the papers wrote about a company in Sweden that wanted to do it, Webwill, but the page closed down. It is an issue, I'd say.
